“True North” is an anti-text message set in the stillness and solitude of a landscape where one can receive time. These photographs track the shifting snowdrifts and blue of long, drawn-out dusk, or the flat light of day in deepest winter. This work was photographed in Finland over the entire month of January when the sun is closest to the horizon. This series led to heightened attention through stillness, a focus on increments of time, and ideas about meditation, silence, and awareness. Like the practice of meditation, these photographs ask the simple question, “What happens when you pay attention?”
This work comprises prints of varying sizes, as well as an artist book, "The Book of Hours" (edition of 25). The monograph from this series, "Nothing Will Ever be the Same Again," was published by Datz Press, 2019.
